Hanna High School Assistant Band Director – 6A – Brownsville, Texas

Brownsville ISD is currently accepting applications for two assistant band director positions with a woodwind background. Hanna Early College High School is located in Brownsville, Texas 15 minutes from South Padre Island in the Rio Grande Valley. Hanna High School has two Middle School feeder programs: Filemon Vela MS (CC) – 2020 9th place TMEA State Honor Band Finalist; Oliveira MS (CCC) – 2020 6th place TMEA State Honor Band Finalist. The high school band staff is comprised of 5 full-time stationary band directors and 1 floating Double Reed specialist. The feeder programs have 3-4 full-time stationary band directors and 1 floating Double Reed specialist.

Applicants must demonstrate a strong pedagogical background in the area of woodwinds. Hanna is looking for applicants who are detail oriented, organized, have effective classroom management skills and good communication skills with parents, students, and administrators. Must be a good student and team motivator.

Hanna has been a consistent UIL Texas State Marching Band Qualifier since 2006. In 2019, the Hanna Band placed 10th in the 6A TMEA State Honor Band contest.

REQUIRED:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Valid Texas Teacher’s Certificate or enrollment in an Alternative Certification Program or equivalent
• Valid Texas Music Education Certification-Secondary
• Knowledge of State and UIL policies governing music education

PREFERRED:
• Woodwind specialist (Flute/Clarinet/Saxophone)

The Assistant Band Director - will teach ensemble classes, assist with marching band instruction, conduct a Concert Band and be held accountable for assigned instructional duties. The Assistant Band Director will assist the Head Band Director with extra-curricular events including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, TMEA and UIL activities. The Assistant Band Director will assist the Head Band Director with all paperwork as well as instructional duties as assigned to provide the best music education possible for the students of BISD.

Salary: Brownsville ISD Teacher Hiring Scale + 23 extra days + $8,000 HS Asst. Director Supplemental
Duty Pay (Bachelor's $62,465-$87,841.00) (+$3,000 Masters / $3,750 Doctorate)
