If the two positions are not with the same district, it's possible that you will not get a full year's credit for retirement purposes with TRS and it would simply be a year lost which will cost you at retirement. You also may lose out on other benefits such as healthcare. For a retiree this won't really matter, but for someone who is not yet retired it could possibly be a setback.
I once taught in an out-of-state school district where I taught at an elementary school in the morning and a middle school in the afternoon. One was a .4 position and the other a .6 position, but since they were both in the same district I was considered a full-time teacher and got the benefits as such. That situation would be the best in my opinion having done exactly that.
