The University of Texas Wind Ensemble will present our final concert of the spring term on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Bates Recital Hall. Complimentary tickets can be reserved in a block from your school and will be held at the box office. Unfortunately we cannot hold multiple individual requests from a single school. Tickets may be obtained by Tuesday, April 19 by contacting Mr. Weston Lewis at weston.lewis@utexas.edu.
This concert will feature the premiere performance of the new transcription of John Corigliano’s To Music, conducted by the transcriber, Dr. Shiree X. Williams. Additionally Dr. Matthew Sedatole's transcription of Viet Cuong’s brilliant Moxie will be conducted by DMA conducting associate Weston Lewis. The program will also feature Ukrainian composer Catherine Likhuta’s touching Home Away from Home, as well as a performance of the new wind band version of Jennifer Higdon’s Blue Cathedral.
The second half will be devoted to a performance of Erik Santos’s amazing new work, The Seer, based on poetry of Langston Hughes. Scott Piper, professor of voice at the University of Michigan, will be the tenor soloist. Erik Santos is the head of the composition department at Michigan, and he will be joining us as well.
