Re: Euphonium Questions
In my endless quest to find the perfect euphonium I have played and owned compensating and non-comp instruments. I played Carnival of Venice in high school on a non-comp Besson which I doubt I could have done on my present compensating Yamaha 641. The speed of the valves was a major factor. There is no question that the length and mass of the comp valves require constant cleaning and proper lube. Yamaha synthetic oil works best on those tight Yamaha valves! I've trusted few kids to keep those comp instruments playing properly. In most schools that I taught my budgets couldn't handle compensating instruments anyway.
