Did I misunderstand why you invoked the SFA band?
I'm also not understanding the comparison of Hebron to the lowest ranked band. Again, Hebron has a ton more resources than that band. Private lessons, marching techs, clinicians, and on and on. That's to say nothing of who they can bring on for their design team. Full disclosure, I enjoy what the Hebron band puts on the field and the concert stage.
Top 3 is quite a narrow sampling in regards to having "stuff" on the field. Look at every show of the finalist bands of 2021. It's very apparent that your overall resources come into play. If I had the budget just for those props, I'd be hiring more help to teach. The thing is, those finalist bands already have that money covered and have plenty of the extra help. They have EXTRA money that they can apply to their prop situation.
The idea that every kid/band can succeed if they march well & play well is a very noble cause and it should always be the goal of every marching performance. That said, it's telling that the highest percentage of economically disadvantaged students for the 6A finalist schools is 29%.
