The 7th/8th grade group has got to be the roughest group of kids I've ever had to deal with. Here is the run down.
Constantly having to tell them to stop talking during instructions. Immediate refusal to sit up with correct posture. Playing when they're not suppose too. Not taking the excercises seriously enough, and refusal to even read the music that I put. In addition, I think I've had to clean a BRAND NEW BAND HALL about every day starting in August after I just told them to not bring in food, drinks, candy, gum, etc. Day two we had a soda spill and I made it clear they're not suppose to have soda in the band hall. I've called a large number of parents to have the problem exacerbated, had conferences with the kids to come to solutions, and had to get on to kids about the simpliest of instructions that they refuse to follow.
The only thing that is really keeping me wanting to stay here is those 6th graders. They've done literally everything that I have told them to do since day one, and it has giving me a little bit of hope to stay here, but I'm not sure that I'm going to make it to the end of the semester. I've never seeked other non-teaching job opportuities more frequently than I have done up to this point.
I do have a supportive staff here, and a co-worker that understands what I'm going through and is really trying to keep me going here, but I'm finding it more and more difficult to want to stay here.
Any advice is welcomed.
