Re: Listening to Professional recordings of music selections
The recordings of North Texas State University are a great source. When I was looking for new material for UIL or concerts. When I found a few that would fit my band I would play them before band to get kid's feedback(when band was 1st period). After we read through the favorite tunes and began working what I selected, we occasionally play the recordings again. I would tell the kids we might interpret them a bit differently, but they were a great tool in a rural school where the kids didn't have many opportunities to hear good bands. The concepts of good balance, blend and intonation were easy to teach with these targeted tunes played by exceptional bands!
