Re: Armstrong Flute 60B
30 years ago you pretty much had a choice between Gemeinhardt, Armstrong, and Emerson. (Yamaha and Jupiter arrived on the scene as decent models later) In the last two decades everyone has bought out other companies and you can pretty much eliminate Gemeinhardt as I heard they went belly up finally recently. Their quality shot down the tubes around 2005. Emerson has pretty much faded to irrelevance since Emerson Deford passed the company on. Armstrong honestly has never been fantastic, but it's been like the dependable student brand. They do hold up pretty well over time.
For my money I prefer Pearl flutes over the Armstrongs. Yamaha is also a much better option, and I even think the Di Zhao's are worth looking at. To be fair I have not run into any bad batches of Armstrongs like I have some of the others.
