Re: Thoughts on a 8 hour rule change
My community expects a highly competitive marching band show, as do many 5 and 6a communities. With that expectation comes lots of funding, staffing, priority scheduling, large practice spaces, large stipends, etc. We use all 8 hours because we have to in order to put the whole thing together to a competitive level. Our kids live it, and our parents and community love it. I knew when I applied for this position what the expectation is. There are many great programs all over the state. There are places where they are just content to have a band and could care less how many hours you practice outside the school day, and thatís ok to. If youíre not up to the 8 hours thing then find a community where thatís ok. It may mean you have to move, take a cut in salary and resources, but itís rare that youíll have both the resources of a competitive program and no expectation to compete.
