I am trying to keep my perspective in that frame with my students. I am literally trying to reteach them how to be people, which is hard when many of their parents have forgotten how to be people as well. Music is important, but at this point, is not the main goal.
Repping clear expectations through procedures with as few words as possible, daily routines, and realistic goals have been what has kept our program moving through all of this. Most days, our school is on fire and falling apart, but the kids come to band better behaved than anywhere else.
Does that suck? Yep. BUT, if you have the ability to reframe what the definition of success is in that direction, maybe you can see signs of growth again, and ultimately, find ways to be happier with your day to day. Good luck!
