Re: Beginner Band Theory
I use the Alfred Music Theory series. There are three books in the series that go from the student knowing absolutely nothing in the first book, all the way to secondary dominants & inversions in the third. Obviously, beginners will be in book one. Each page presents the new material at the top of the page, with exercises at the bottom. There is an ear training page (CD in the teacher's manual), and a quiz at the end of each unit.
Here's the interesting part: If a kid gets stuck on an exercise...THE ANSWERS ARE AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE. No excuses for not doing the work...if they read the top of the page they can do the bottom of the page.
