Re: beginning percussion books
It's honestly just a matter of preference. I've used both of those books before and have had success with both. They all teach the same thing... it's just a matter of what fits your preference. The nice thing about the Wylie book is that it is spiral bound... it sounds dumb to say that but it is nice.
Having said that, I'm currently using the Snare Drummer's and Mallet Player's Toolboxes from Rowloff. Never thought I'd like a method book from Rowloff, but I really do like them. Again, everything is subject to what fits your teaching and organization style. You can't go wrong with either of those systems.
