If it's really dirty you can take a q-tip with some rubbing alcohol to the areas and clean them. Make sure nothing drips onto the pads though! If they have a silver plated finish you can also have them take a polishing cloth to them to clean it.
Most flutes will not have a problem after you do those things. If you're still having an issue you may need to have a repair shop look at the joints and shrink/expand the tenon areas.
