I was asked by a student yesterday "Will we use bell covers this year?" My response: "I really hadn't even thought of this - I thought we'd be done with this. But this new Delta Variant is SO contagious I really don't think a bell cover is going to help much. I've gotten my vaccine - I think think that's the best thing we can do, but I know it is up to your families to decide for you since you are all between 12 and 17."
I'll keep opening doors for ventilation and going outside as much as we can - this area is so "anti-mask" that I won't even attempt to encourage the band as a whole to mask up (although I bet many will on their own).
Personally, here is how I'm feeling. I was among those that willingly wore a mask as often as possible. Our family cancelled vacation plans. We avoided crowds. We got the vaccine as soon as it was available to us (I'm 50) and got our teen children vaccinated as soon as we could. And now I'm being asked to "mask up" again due to the overwhelming bunch of people in my state and community that would not do ANY of these things. My gut instinct is "screw em - I hope they get sick - they deserve it"...but I know this would include young kids and many that are immune-compromised. So, I guess I'll suck it up, try to continue to think altruistically, and get my masks back out of the drawer.
Thanks for letting me rant. Good Luck to all of you - we're going to need it.
