Re: Music Appreciation Class
If you have the budget to buy some textbooks (they ain't cheap), check out The Musical Experience by John Chiego. I taught Music Appreciation for several years at a community college and used this textbook for the last several years. Rather than the typical "Music History Lite" approach of most MA books, The Musical Experience takes a genre approach. For example, a chapter on religious music, a chapter on Songs, etc. This allows you to include contemporary music right off the bat instead of waiting until you get to the 20th century in music history. It also includes a chapter on film music and a chapter on improvisation. Chiego has a YouTube channel with videos of most of the musical examples in the textbook. The textbook is published by Kendall-Hunt.
