I have been wearing hearing aids since I was 7 and am currently in my tenth year in the band director profession. I would recommend to first see what your insurance can cover in paying for a brand new set of hearing aids (deductible and out-of-pocket costs and such). Set up a meeting with an audiologist (within your insurance coverage) and see what brands are recommended due to your level of hearing loss. It is crucial to get the most up-to-date version if at all possible. While they may be a little pricey, it will pay off in its abilities to adjust to your setting/environment for the best hearing levels. You will truly be glad you did. I totally know the feeling of not being able to understand the clarity of speech in a large meeting. These new hearing aids are SO much better. Someone asked me what it was like to have such a new model of hearing aids and I compared it to having an iPhone 7 in today's world for FIVE years (NOT bashing it! Haha. I know some people can get by with just what it can do) while Apple now has iPhone 12. My previous model hearing aids served more like amplifiers versus the newest ones that are Bluetooth compatible with my iPhone and are "smart" versions. They will adjust to my listening environments (small band class, large band class, cafeteria setting, driving in my car, etc).
