You did your job, reported it up the line, and nothing was done. That's not you, that's on an administrator who was a weasel and refused to do their job.
I'm in a situation like that now. I'm the only director, and I also teach a dump music appreciation elective in addition to my band duties.
Because of an absolutely asinine district policy, only a certain percentage (20%) of my enrolled kids can fail per six weeks, or I get to have all sorts of conferences with administrators as to why my failure rates are so high. To the extent of the admin creating a growth plan for me if my failure rates are that high - because obviously *I* am why so many are failing.
Since COVID, our campus has lost about 15-20% of its enrollment. However, only about 10% of those students have been actually taken off our rolls. I have no fewer than twenty students in my band and music appreciation classes *who have never come to class* this year who are still on our roll.
Why? Because all it takes to keep them on is ONE teacher marking them present and saying "yes, they were here" for the class. We have six or seven teachers on this campus who mark every kid present every day. Therefore, any of those kids shared in those classes are stuck on the roll.
See the problem yet? I'm not allowed to fail kids who have done zero work for the entire year because I have to keep my failure rate down. If they check in for attendance, I have to pass the kid. Even though they do nothing. Even though they've done nothing.
Admin can fix this in a heartbeat - demand accurate attendance. But they won't..
I've also not stayed silent about it - but every time I bring it up, I'm told "There are other concerns right now" ...
