I agree with your philosophies on inclusion. I took it one step further a few years ago when my band had reached a size that I had eight "alternates". I had my drill writer create squads of alternates at the back of the band that would not hurt the show design if these students became ineligible and couldn't go to contest. It was great for the kids and the parents loved it. It worked so well that when (miraculously) all of the alternates became eligible, we matched them at UIL contest and they were part of that first division success. Had we lost a portion of this squad we would have used the eligible kids to help with props and equipment at contest.
