I told admin about the stealing after I secured a new job, and they were flabbergasted. Wanted to know why I didnít say something sooner. I told them I was afraid of the HD retaliating and me losing my job or hurting my reputation. He obviously didnít get in any trouble when the dust settled.
That summer, I told a few colleagues what had happened when they asked. I didnít lie... I just said what my experience was. A mentor of mine found out and told me not to tell anyone else what has really happened. Said it could jeopardize my career. I believed them, so I shut my mouth. But, my mentor was also HIS mentor... there was definitely a conflict of interest there.
Anyway, the next year my replacement came to me in October asking if the HD skipped work often while I was there: and I told him everything. He was experiencing all the same issues as me and then some. He was mad nobody warned him.
My replacement left after one year. He didnít bother going to admin.
So, in summary... I kind of regret keeping my mouth shut. In hindsight I donít think my career or reputation would have been harmed had I exposed what was really happening.
Bad situations stay bad when people stay silent.
