I had of group of unmotivated kids with no prior knowledge, many of them were special needs/504 (they were the best kids in that band) the others were just...some were put in band by a counselor that just need a place to put a body. I worked my but off, they got better, almost sounded like music. Received a 3 on stage and SR, I was disappointed right then, but a 3 from kids that it took half a semester to get them to blow on the right end of their instrument was truly a success.
15 Years later and I received a letter from one of thoses kids (one that took forever to teach him how to put a trombone together) that said that band had changed his life and gave him the tools that he needed to be successful in the Army.
So success come in many forms.
