Re: How to move on!?!
My goal (expressed from the beginning) is that when we go to contest, we have our best performance of those specific pieces. Our goal is not to play with no mistakes because that is not going to happen. We hope that this gets us what we want from judges, but we compare recordings and even ask students about things that they could or could not do on their instrument and as musicians as the start of the year compared to now.
They usually understand this. There has only been one time that I received a rating that I truly did not think was just. I went through the rubric and the comment sheets and explained what I thought they did those things and that sometimes people walking in for one brief moment out of their year dont always feel the same way and I'm fine with that. Then move on.
