...not only in the church orchestra, but if you do a lot of session work in a recording studio you rely on your sight-reading skills quite a bit.
The studio doesn't want to pay you to be there any longer than they need to (paid by the hour). So what happens is: Walk in, get the music, read through *maybe* twice, record, walk out.
