Re: How did you do at your first UIL?
32 years ago, had a very tiny band with no tuba and the Bari Sax kid that was good (for me at the time) quit band the week before. 333 stage 322 SR. Over programmed stage as I didn't know what I was doing. This was a AA Band in the metroplex area (but out in a cornfield) that was on life support. The year before was all 5's The program was about to be cut when I the LONE CANDIDATE walked in the day of the deciding school board day of band decision. The superintendent wouldn't let me out of the office without signing a contract I stayed 4 year. This was a tough gig with $5000 TOTAL BUDGET and no staff. I still have great friendship with several families. My BEST trumpet player ever came out of this program as he was an 8th grader. I noticed last evening that school (a good sized 4A now) made all 1's at UIL and I am so proud of them. School is still out in a cornfield but does have a budget and good sized staff.
