Re: National Board Certification
There was a large pay incentive in SC when I was there (15 years ago) to complete your National Board Certification. I enrolled as a 5th year teacher with the plan of taking 2 years to complete it. I did 1/2 of the stuff the first year, and then we moved here to TX for my wife's job. I transitioned from a HS HBD in a large suburban district in SC to a JH ABD in a pseudo-rural Houston area and received about $6k more in annual salary here in TX.
All that said, without a financial incentive (it was a $12k/year raise in SC) there isn't much upside. It's a bunch of work and by work I mean the "not fun" kind.
