I am on the road daily and work around director's schedules. Because of this I don't take a 30 minute lunch. My schedule requires me to make adjustments for my customers. It isn't the profession that is succumbing. It is about a one-size-doesn't-fit-all approach. You said as much in your own post. So if fast food workers can flex their time why couldn't/shouldn't a teacher if it makes better sense for the flow of the day? Yes, take time to eat and be healthy, and yes, have time in the day to get done what needs to be done, (nobody should be arriving and leaving in the dark on a consistent basis), but do the job in front of you and avoid the temptation to make a single schedule for everyone in the profession. And not seriously but seriously, the teacher's lounge should be closed. I quit eating there in about my 3rd year because I quickly discovered it was the most negative room in the building. Was always full of teachers who didn't like kids or their jobs yet collected a paycheck and made everyone around them miserable while doing it. I would rather stay in my office and my band hall, room full of kids practicing or talking rather than the horrible place that was the teacher's lounge and a "duty free" lunch.
