It. Should. Not. Matter. What. I. Or. Anyone. Else. Wears. And it's very much elitist and potentially culturally insensitive to think it does. What about trans students? Should they be forced into a dress if they identify as male? This is less an issue for band, but it is ABSOLUTELY an issue in choir. Make everyone wear pants? What about Pentecostals? It. Should. Not. Matter!
And if a judge EVER comments on my or my students' choice of attire, even at S&E, I'm filing a grievance with TMAA and the region secretary, even if I or they get a top score. It's literally none of their business what ANYONE is wearing. A judge's job is to judge what you hear the ensemble or performer is doing - or the visual components PRESENT IN THE RUBRIC, which does in NO event include "attire."
