1. Always do what is best for the kids (meaning all kids in the band class). It would be in their best interest to go to UIL and receive constructive criticism from 6 experienced judges. With a lot of non-varsity bands, this could only happen if the failures were allowed to go due to instrumentation issues.
2. Does the admin put additional rules above and beyond the base UIL rules on other groups in the ISD? We are not asking for some weird, over the top thing here. We just want to go by the base UIL rules just like other groups and teams in our ISD. UIL has debated this for a while now and they seem to think using failures is OK. Very likely other bands around you will be allowing their failures to participate.
3. All students should be evaluated against the TEKS in every subject. UIL C/SR is an evaluation of band TEKS. Six independent, highly qualified band directors will evaluate the kids' performance against the TEKS for band.
4. Allowing all students to participate is what is best for music education in general.
