Ask if you can record the rehearsal or have access to the recording they create. Once the director establishes a “target,” listen to that frame until you can clearly hear why they chose to work on that target and what pedagogical solutions they chose to use. Additionally, ask yourself how the ensemble sounds as a result of the issue and how they sound after the issue has improved.
