Not that I think it matters but the district is just trying to cover their bases for contract days worked. It's a total waste of time but all it takes is one loud mouth parent making a huge fuss about teachers getting paid for days they don't work. Yes, we all know that actual hours worked teachers more than cover their "contract" hours but again, nobody cares until that person compains and then it's bad PR for everyone involved.
As for closures, most districts were following the information from government leaders which is why nobody announced Friday they were closing for the week. Now that we have actually seen the disaster sitting here, and the ice and snow are only the beginning. Busted pipes and busted infrastructure will actually drag this out for an additional week if not longer. Schools will continue to stay closed and announce additional days, maybe only a day at a time, for days to come. Give them some grace, (the school leaders not the government officials).
I remember during Rita in Houston when what started as a 2 day closure turned into 2 or 3 weeks, announced 1 day at a time. And the same thing happened a few years back.
