When I was a high school assistant director, I wrote our marching drill and was paid a three-digit amount from the boosters, as requested by the head director.
After I became a head director in a different district, I wrote drill for our band and submitted a payment request, again three-digits, through our district account that was provided for those types of services. Nobody questioned it at any point of the process and I was paid.
The second year that I did that, someone in the Finance office raised a flag to the Fine Arts office. I didn't get in any type of trouble, but I was told that I wouldn't be paid for the service, even though I used my own software, computer, and wrote off of contract time. I have hired a drill writer every year since then.
