Personally, if a flex score arrangement captures the intent of the composer (most of the time, the composer is the one who makes the arrangement, so that's a safe bet!), I don't see why they aren't allowed.

It's allowable to rewrite parts in their entirety if you don't have a player, if the part is critical (write an oboe part for clarinet, for example, or a horn part onto trumpet, trombone, or sax). Why can't we take an already-rewritten set of parts and perform the piece?

This is yet another way that UIL is out of touch with the needs of small bands. We don't always have a full instrumentation. This should be allowed, and for everyone, from this year forward.

Think about how this benefits everyone - from rural 1C middle schools to 4A inner city schools who struggle to maintain membership. Allowing flex scores literally hurts no one. Why isn't it ok?
