I recommend you consider the Brenham/Round Top/Fayetteville area as a possible getaway. Many small niche hotels,Inns, and bed and breakfasts, charming small shops, and restaurants. The people who own Armandos in Houston operate three excellent restaurants in Round Top and The Wine Bar at the Grand Fayette in Fayetteville is very romantic, but you would want to make reservations. Best part-not overly touristy! Quaint walkable country towns with plenty to do but very relaxing and beautiful.
