What are some key words/phrases/ideas that have resulted in students articulating the way you want it to sound? I'm looking for phrases that will help all instruments in a full band setting, not necessarily instrument specific, though I know the mechanics are different for each instrument.
My kids end up sounding "mushy" or "thick" on note starts (like thoo or thua instead of dah), or sometimes with "sneaking in" instead of clear note starts.
I struggled with articulation when as a tuba player in HS and college until someone figured out I was tonguing too much between my teeth.
Thanks for any help!
