What are MS band directors looking for?

Hey there, I’m just curious as to what are MS directors looking for in students in regards to prior knowledge when recruiting for your programs?

I know that a lot of MS directors start from scratch when it comes to the fundamentals of music, but I was wondering what could I do to alleviate the process?

Any thoughts?
