My experience with the Yamaha 221II two-piece bass clarinet in marching season has been awful. We sent every single instrument to the shop this year, and most more than once. If you want an outdoor BCL section DO NOT get a two-piece body.

We purchased 3 Conn 1430LP bass clarinets this year for this reason. While not perfect, they worked fine on the marching field when we got them in.

One thing to keep in mind: I'm a military band. We put more wear on our instruments because of the way we turn. Your mileage may vary, but I would shy away from the Yamaha if you're using them outside.
