Re: Advice for student teaching
This is solid advice, but I have one disagreement. If you disagree with how your mentor teacher handles something, I think you should absolutely bring it up. Don't be accusatory, or act as if you know better, but ask and find out the reasons. Maybe there's a previous history with a particular kid that you don't know about, maybe it's just a matter of musical taste, maybe a teacher who's actively working with kids every day knows better than your college professor who hasn't been inside a middle school in decades. There are multiple paths and many of them lead to the same place eventually.
