Because simple interface boxes are allowed, I would look more at using one of those and a standard XLR microphone that you can use elsewhere as well. We're using a Presonus 96 USB Interface for our box. We have some Audio-Technica Pro37s that have done well for us. I've also been using some ATM650's in bells of brass/saxes.

All of our recordings cam out clear and I don't think there were any issues with that aspect of them.
