First and foremost, I think we all need to thank UIL for pulling off a State Marching Contest in the strangest of times. Many of us, including me, were extremely skeptical in the ability of a contest to happen right now but UIL managed to give these kids something to be excited about all semester in marching band. I could actually see in the kids faces this morning, the extent to what we would have been dealing with all semester had these performance opportunities been taken away and I'm ashamed to have wanted it all to be shut down.

After examining the Judging sheets from this past 2A contest, I want to also thank UIL for being courageous in looking at modifying the way things have been done at the Area and State level. The art has come so far that it's truly a blessing that this was the last time that those old sheets will be used. I truly hope the scoring system will eliminate some of these issues in scoring because it's just kind of confusing to look at and I think gives us a bad look as a discipline. I still think that dropping a high and low judge in a 7 judge panel situation would be even better going forward for everyone at the state level. I truly hope that UIL looks at this moving forward. Thank you to all of the judges who did their best in placing each band. I don't envy the hard work that went into trying to rank bands at a state level. I hope everyone has a great Christmas!!
