Re: Region judging almost destroyed my marriage
I personally don't think anyone is "passing the buck." I came into a program that did not have good leadership before me and the 7th grade students I had were just like another beginner group. I sent some of those kids to region knowing they would struggle. But they did work on the music and they did put their heart into it, and when you are trying to build a program, you also want them to know what that experience is like. I spent a lot of time before and after school helping them and doing my responsibility as a director. Part of that responsibility is knowing what is best for your students and your program. Most of my students had never done any individual competitions and it did start a tradition of students wanting to work towards region and things like that. It's not always so black and white as irresponsible directors sending underprepared students and students who "should" be there.
