I have good attendance from 80% of my kids.
Then again, my class is structured now more like a guided practice session with time built in for kids to interact with each other. Even the assignments are those college-style discussion posts where they interact with each other.
We are working in unison as a focus on playing melodic lines during the holiday season for our families and friends. I have accompaniments put on our class youtube channel to play along with.
Weirdly, the sightreading is improving because I'm through out LOTS of music in fast succession to my middle schoolers and letting them focus on a few that they prefer.
I have had more kids than ever before tell me that my class is their favorite and that they love being in my room (I didn't even decorate this year!!). It's the interaction. It's the stories, the laughter, and (did I mention) the interaction with each other.
We'll get there. We'll get there together. And if we fail, we'll do that together too.
