Re: Easier class 1 mallet solos
Like other have suggested "Yellow after the Rain" is often thought of as a young percussionists first "real" 4 mallet solo. Over played? Yes. Difficult in sections? Also yes, but no percussionist can disagree that its almost a rite of passage. Another popular one is "Rain Dance" by Alice Gomez, it gets the same criticisms as "Yellow" but still a standard piece. Many people like solos out of the "Impressions on Wood" collection. A popular book for TMEA etudes, with a range of difficulty. Also "Marimba Technique through Music" by Mark Ford is popular. Solos of varying difficulty but also has good technical exercises to go with.
