We have a 5A high school with a 3C middle school as the sole feeder. The newly named Distict Fine Arts Coordinator, a high school AP, is pushing for the middle school directors to assist at the high school band and is trying to rewrite their job description mid-year and require a certain amount of time spent at the HS each month.
1. The high school directors aren't asking for it and don't want the job descriptions changed.
2. There's no time in the middle school schedule for them to come to the high school during the day. And coming to the high school after school would necessitate canceling after school responsibilities at the middle school.
It is my understanding that the MS used to help out the HS more when the MS had more heterogeneous beginner classes but it hasn't happened since the MS moved to homogeneous beginner classes that took up more class periods in the school day.
In my experience, I haven't seen this at the 5A/6A/3C level. I'm aware that true team teaching does happen elsewhere but I've only personally seen it in a smaller 3A/1C situation or where HS directors come to the MS to teach a beginner class but not the other way around.
I'd like to get a feel for how this works in other places before I say anything about how band "usually" works elsewhere.
