He was an amazing person. We worked together on several percussion pieces published by Southern. However, many years ago, I was very fortunate to have studied flute with him. Even today, I remember his very sincere (and honest) comments about my flute playing. At the end of every lesson, he would slowly shake his head, look at my flute, then down at the floor, and finally at me, saying..."Well, Miss Nancy, it's a good thing the snare drum is your primary instrument!"
