The district provided me with a wireless internet device (uses a SIM card) and I plug in a computer with a network cable. I have a large monitor and use a cable hook up to a larger speaker for audio. We meet behind the gym which is fairly shaded during the day.
It’s not ideal, but I feel it’s safer; we’re relatively on track, and it also allows me to see their faces while playing since we’re able to unmask outside.
I keep my low brass inside because we were losing a lot of time in transition, and w/ three different instruments I was concerned about falling even farther behind.
I have a cart that I use that w/an extension cord to an outlet. I plug everything into a power strip.
We aren’t using music stands yet, but we’ve got enough extras to keep a rack outside. With some plexiglass sheets (Home Depot) I think we’ll be ok.
The weather has only been bad once, and we were able to fit underneath an overhang. So it really is a pretty good setup. We’ve had a few chilly days, but not terrible. No complaints as of yet. I’m guessing we’ll have to move indoors right before thanksgiving.
We mask up and bell cover w/my 7/8 graders. Too hot at that time of day.
Things you need:
- power supply
- separate internet if possible. Wifi connection outside is likely not strong enough
- shade for kids and to see your screen
- additional speaker to hear zoom kids
- place that is secure in order to avoid having to pack up after every class.
