If you have parents/community with a large amount of disposable income, it works fine. If your parents don't use credit cards or have a great deal of ready cash, you won't make a ton of money.
Since you're rural, you may fall into that category, especially with things being the way they are financially statewide.
Also, fees: nearly all "crowdfunding" stuff like this gets huge chunks taken out by the companies that run it. You'll lose a ton of money no matter what you do. Maybe consider doing a DonorsChoose or setting up a simple direct donation idea?
