Re: switching to tuba
I have had really good luck with all beginners just telling them to relax their lips and blow warm air. Sometimes, I have told them just to "flap" their lips and gradually put the mouthpiece on the lips. This gets a lower buzzing sound and will produce the low Bb. I tell them and work with them to do that until they get the feel and don't need to "flap" any more. Never have had a kid that couldn't within a short span of time not get the low notes out. I am no tuba player, but sometimes experimenting does the trick.
