Couple of things I think are happening here. For one, it's hard to find quality music at the grade 1 and 2 levels. Some of you need to realize that your "favorite grade 2" to play every 4 years just isn't good music. Maybe it's too repetitive, or maybe there isn't any worthwhile development throughout the piece, poor orchestration choices, whatever, there is actually quite a bit of music on the list in ALL grade levels that should probably be cut. Even though I love Balmages, I don't think Colliding Visions is his best offering (band directors pick that because of the message anyway), and frankly, I don't like Chambers' music much at all, so I wouldn't be sad to see this go.
That all being said, I don't get Fireball being cut. This actually seems fairly well written and interesting for the kids to play (I never really paid much attention to it until this post) They could've at least dropped it to a 1.
