Re: Iím so close to quitting. Anybody else?
I used to tell all of my student teachers at the end of their time, and new teachers when we started that sometime in the first three months you will have the thought, "Can I afford in time and money to go back to school to learn how to do something else?" We all do. Most of us continue on, some do not. As others have said, 1) it gets better, and 2) many times a change of scenery makes a huge difference - not just town but HS/MS/IS teaching just beginners/Elem.
With that said, I agree with some others about your, "Iíve always thought that being a band director wasnít for me," comment. Whether that is 'My parents paid for this degree I have to do it,' or 'I really wanted to be a pro player, but didn't want to be poor (or doubts about be able to make it),' or something else, making a career change may be best. Teaching and band directing are professions that are hard to do well if you don't want to do it.
