Re: Iím so close to quitting. Anybody else?
Yes sir. I'm in year 17. It does get better as you get older. I was in a situation last year that made me want to end more than a band career. I'm loving my new job. So, the place you teach matters a whole lot. Also, you get to a point in any school where you either suck up the bad vibes and get through it or you move on to a fresh start. Just remember that worrying about a band job is not worth it. You wake, do your best every day and that's all you can ask of yourself. If you don't get satisfaction, seriously consider a new place to work at. I would advise against mid year changes or anything like that. If people are being ridiculous in their demands of you just try to laugh it off and do what you can for the best of your students. You might try finding a colleague or two where you can vent your frustrations. I often find that, while it doesn't really change anything, it might give you better perspective that a lot of us go through the same bad stuff. It also might open doors to self improvement. I question you this. If you chose to be a band director, spent the years necessary to do it, are you sure you don't want to? We are who we ultimately choose to be. But, if you have skills outside of this career that you would like to go for, this is America. Do it! Best of luck to you and God bless.
