Why are you still doing practice records?
Kids will either:
1. Practice because they want to improve,
2. Practice for the grade, but not always what they need to work on (most rare)
3. Not turn it in at all (most common)
4. Not practice, but lie about it/just get their parents to sign off.
Three of those four don’t do what you’re intending.
In the meantime you have to grade dozens if not hundreds of assignments.
Additionally, can you guarantee grade equity in this? Do all of your large instrument kids have an at-home option? Do any of your busriders have a driver who prohibits instruments due to being 3 to a seat? Do your kids or their siblings have afterschool activities that last till 7 or 8 pm?
You can’t use the “they can practice on the weekends” canard to excuse any of the above, either. Cramming sessions didn’t work for you in college, why would they work for developing musicians?
In short, do ALL of your kids have an equal chance to earn this grade?
Find ways to make this a better option.
